W/C 23rd June - I hurt my back. I went to the osteopath and he fixed it for me.
w/C 30th June - I started to do pilates and undid the good work from the osteopath the week before so had to go back and get it fixed again.
W/C 7th July - I had some funny jaw pain happening. Not sure if it was my teeth, although the doc thought it may have been my grinding my teeth as a result of stress. Its gone now.
Today - I fell.
There was a little teeny dip in the floor in my office. I walked on it in bare feet (I was about to crawl under a desk to find a wire for the phone), went over on my right ankle and the next thing I know I'm on the floor.
It hurt. A lot. It made a crunchy sound too. One of my colleagues drove me to the hospital and sat with me for the 3 hours I had to wait to see a doctor.
I gave my details to a surly receptionist, who didn't much care that I was in pain. She let me limp over to a chair...couldn't give a damn.
I waited wait for an hour, then a nice nurse called me over and asked some questions. She put me in a wheelchair and sent me down to X-Ray to have some pictures taken. Its not easy having a foot X-Ray done when you can't put your foot flat and thats what they want. Still, I got through it.
I then go back to the waiting room for two more hours, to see an indifferent, overworked doctor. He came out and called my name, sees I can hardly walk and rather than getting a wheelchair to help me, he just says "Take your time...". He sits me in a chair, pokes the swollen bit of my foot which hurt so much that it almost put me through the ceiling. He then asks if I've taken any painkillers. I hadn't, because I didn't know what they might do at the hospital. He tells me I'll need painkillers. I ask if anything is broken...he looks at me and says "well, I've had a quick look at the X-Rays, I'll look again."
Because why bother to look properly? Whats the point in taking them if you don't look?
Luckily, nothing is broken but its a nasty sprain. He tells me to elevate it, take painkillers and in a few days I'll be ok. He didnt bandage it. That was it. Lacking in bedside manner to say the least.
So, here I sit. Using the laptop, my right leg resting on two cushions to try and keep it elevated. I've spoken to my boss who is as perplexed as I am as to how I managed to fall. Perhaps the 7 or so colleagues that saw me fall might be able to give opinion.
I'm really down about it. I can't walk properly because it hurts to put weight on my foot, I'm uncomfortable with my foot on the cushions and god knows how I'm going to sleep like this. I know its not serious and I'll be ok in a couple of weeks, but its frustrating and depressing and I don't know what to do with myself.
*sigh*

Hi Beth,
I wish I could come and bring you a good book and some soup. Both tend to have immense therapeutic qualities. I'm sorry about your foot -- injuries are an awful inconvenience. I get hurt all of the time (knee, shin, bum, you name it, it's been pulled at some point or another) so I feel ya pain. I hope it heals quickly.

Oh honey, sounds like you're having a rough time of it. Ibuprofen is my drug of choice - anti-inflammatory and kills pain.
Lots of virtual hugs for you.

You poor chook. My flatmate seems to have gotten herself into similar circumstances to you, hurt her ankle a couple of weeks ago and then fell again on the same leg and sprained her ankle and bashed her other knee. It's very frustrating, have a proper rest and recuperate a bit.
Play a bit of Scrabulous, that'll distract you.

Oh no! Sounds like you've got a case of Health and Safety on your hands! Doctors should have to be good looking and charming and learn to kiss it where it hurts!

Hi Roses!
I'm on the ibuprofen as we speak. I'm not sure how much difference its making, but I'm a teeny bit too scared to stop just in case its a major difference!
Things aren't going brilliantly well at the moment, but I figure they'll get better soon. At least thats what I'm telling myself!

Hi Mia!
It must be the time of year for it! I hope your roommate is feeling better, this kind of stuff is really crappy - frustrating as much as painful!
I've never played scrabulous, but I have watched a lot of programmes on the Crime and Investigation network. Its my version of trash tv.

Hi Clarissa!
Yeah, its a case of me being a health and safety nightmare to be honest. I'm somewhat accident prone, well known for tripping, falling, walking into trees etc. Its because I'm always thinking about twenty things at once, my spatial awareness is severely lacking!
I like your ideas about the doctors. They're handsome and charming on TV (except for House, maybe) so why not in real life?
