Its 2009 already - I can't believe how quickly 2008 flew by.
Happy New Year, I hope you had a great christmas and your New Years Eve was fun. I almost never go out on NYE, purely because its always busy and expensive and I'm intolerant and would rather not spend a huge amount getting in somewhere I can get in free any other night!
I stayed at home, had some lovely food and a couple of drinks and watched a countdown of the top 100 stand up comedians on tv. Not wildly exciting, but between christmas day and Sunday 28th I drank plenty and had lots of fun with my family. I even ended up drunky by lunchtime on Christmas day. I'd planned on having bucks fizz while we opened our presents, but once I tasted the bottle of Prosecco I opened I decided it was too nice to mix with OJ and was drinking it on its own. Oops!
Its my birthday on the 12th, I'll be 27 and I'm really excited about it. That probably sounds a bit strange, getting closer to 30 and all that, but I have a feeling that 27 is going to be a good year for me. I can't tell you why, I don't really know myself, I just feel extremely optimistic about it.
I'm not going to make any resolutions - I won't stick to them. I do have a plan for this year though. A keyword, if you will.
Try
I'm going to try as many new things as I can. I'm going to try new food, new music, new films, new places, new people, new experiences. I'm going to try to exercise, try to be healthier and treat my body better, try to learn more. Try to fill up the box with as much interesting, enriching, useful stuff as I can.
I know Yoda says there is no try, there is only do or not do and thats a nice idea, but not realistic. I'm not a jedi and nor will I ever be, I'm not going to even try.
He'd probably give me crap for saying that too. If he was real.

Woohhooo! You go girl. Give Yoda the finger (or double fingers)! Try it out! I loved being 27. Though I think 34 and 36 were pretty good too! Big hugs in the new year and for your birthday! Wooohhoooo!

Clarissa - Thank you! You sound almost as excited as I am, which I like very much! I hope your 2009 has got off to a fabulous start x

There seems to be a contradiction here. Are you going to try, or are you not going to try?
I think you have posed yourself something of a paradox.
I like it a lot.

ps change is good, but light on black makes my eyes go funny.

Monozygote - I hadn't really thought of it as a paradox, but re-reading my post you're right, it is! What I really meant was that I'm not setting any specific resolutions like "go to the gym" or "go on a diet", but something more general. Sorry about the new colour scheme being funny on your eyes, it took a little while for me to get used to it too - I just love this combination of colours!

Change is good. Especially when that change is for the better. And it seems to me that all your changes will affect you in a good way - in a positive way.
I also think you're right about this year being a good year. Last year was just...sucky. But this is a year for new changes, fresh starts and a better life.
Best of luck, Beth!

Happy New Year hon! I hope this year is all sorts of wonderful for you! I think your plan for this year...to try. That's such a great plan. I hope you succeed at all that you try!

And happy birthday sweetheart!

David - Happy New Year, and thank you for your kind comments. I'm trying to make positivity oe of my new "things". If I can just get it to blend nicely with my scathing realism I'll be all good.
Ruby - Thank you honey, Happy New Year to you too! This year definitely feels like its starting well, so long may it continue!

Happy NEW Year!
Wow, I'm very excited about all these impending plans. 27 IS awesome, I'm loving every minute of it. Only half a year left for me before 28. I'm trying to do more new things too. I spent 2007 doing lots of new things and it was probably the happiest year of my life. I think it's the way forward.

Happy New Year Beth and glad you had an enjoyable festive season.
I hope 2009 will be a great year for you.

C'mom, you're not a jedi knight? ;-) You may have already made a resolution without realizing it. It sounds like your resolution for 2009 is to expand your horizons, to be more adventurous, to peer into the unknown, to seek out new life, new civilizations, to boldly go where you have never gone before ... OK, I'm mixing up Star Wars references with Star Trek prologue, so I'll shut up now.

Mia - Thank you, I'm really excited too! I hadn't realised we were pretty much the same age, you learn something new every day!
Clare - Happy new year to you too, I hope you and your folks had a great Christmas.
Kenneth - Star Trek I can handle. I never really was a fan of Star Wars, so unfortunatley I'm not a Jedi knight. I didnt much like the uniform and I think its probably very hard to use the force in high heels and I'm not sacrificing my shoe collection for that! ;o)

Happy belated New Year! My birthday's on the 10th and I can only recall with a wistfulness that is nearly palpable how, at your age, the whole world's an oyster.

Well, whatever Yoda may or may not have to say about things, the point is you are looking at more fun ways of living...that has to be a step in the right direction. Good for you.
I, on the other hand, bought my tankini and it has stayed in my drawer. It just seems too cold to be shivering in a pool somewhere. Brrr...perhaps I'll try something warmer instead.
Good luck honey...go for it!

Bob - Thank you! I think the world is anyones oyster, as long as they're prepared to shuck it. I hope you had a great birthday too.
Roses - Thank you! Its definitely too cold for swimming. I haven't even been to my gym since the first week of December, but I've bought myself a book on stretching which I figure is better than nothing.
